What to do next

No but it’s very likely. If you complete training, you’ll get an interview with an employer and 98% of our previous learners who completed their training have got a job within a few weeks. Our college partners are working with employers actively looking to fill live roles – all promising stuff.

Starting roles include Track Operatives, Earthing Assistants and Vegetation Management roles, with quick progression routes to Authorised Person, or Lookout, or Possession roles. There’s loads more jobs too with incredibly good salaries.

Register and complete the eligibility check. It’s a quick and easy process and takes around a minute to complete. Based on your answers, we will direct your application to the most relevant curse to you.

No, you won’t be paid until you secure a role. Most candidates fund themselves throughout the training programme through evening/weekend work, savings, family support, and Universal Credits, depending on individual circumstances.

The stuff you see is related to Network Rail staff and the public sector. Candidates go on to work in the private sector and tend to be unaffected by the strike action. The railway plays a vital role in the UK and skilled workers are always needed.

If you’re eligible it’s completely free of charge. Zilch! The training is worth a few thousand pounds for the skills based and the safety learning combined. It might not always be free – so we recommend taking advantage of it asap.

No, that’s not an available option right now.

You have to be 19+ to apply for the Level 3 course and 24+ to apply for the level 2 course (no upper age limit)

No, attendance at the Information Session is mandatory if you wish to enrol. Already decided you want to enrol but cannot make the Information Session? Contact us at 0333 577 5222 or email and we can have a chat about your options.

Depending on eligibility you will either attend our Salford venue on the 9th or 10th of January 2024. Or a Bury venue on Tuesday 16th January 2024. If you’re eligible, we’ll email you the full details. There’ll be two sessions on each of the days – at 10am and 1pm. If you’re eligible and secure a spot at the Information Session, you’ll get the option to book your preferred time slot.

We can’t promise that there’ll be future courses in your area. Keep checking our Facebook page for updates, and feel free to email and ask to be put on a waiting list. We’ll gladly put you on there.

Photo ID such as a passport, driver’s licence or citizen card (please make sure these are valid and in date). Birth certificates also accepted as valid ID.

Proof of residency (utility bill or bank statement dated within the last three months)

National insurance number (NI card or past wage slip)

Proof of Universal Credits or your last three months of wage slips.

Depending on which course you are eligible for training will start on either 29/1/2024 or 22/1/2024.

Classroom and practical sessions will both take place at venues in Manchester. Address details will be provided by the college at the Information Session.

A blended mix of in-person classroom sessions and in-person practical sessions

You will be provided with further details at the Information Session.

Usually it’s 9am-4.30pm from Monday to Friday but the college partner will confirm this on the Information Session or before your start date.

Level 3 – This programme is full time, 2-3 days per week, 9:30am – 4pm each day. You may be able to work part-time elsewhere outside of these hours.

Level 2 – This programme is full time, Monday to Friday, 9:30am – 4pm each day. You may be able to work part-time elsewhere outside of these hours.

If you expect to miss parts of the training, we recommend you apply for a future course and commit to the entire programme.

The Level 3 course requires in person attendance on two pre-set full days per week, so you could potentially work around your study days.

The Level 2 course is full-time study for five days per week and therefore is only suitable for unemployed people.
